Sub-Terrania

Rating: C+

From the look of it, at first I thought this was going to be an awesome game, but it's just too damn hard to enjoy. Basically, the way it works is that you fly through caverns blasting a few enemies (and I do mean "a few") while keeping an eye on your fuel guage and colleting the occasional fuel pod or weapon powerup. In order to complete a level, you have to perform certain tasks, and those tasks involve problems such as getting a laserbeam to ricochet off of floating panels in order to knock out a wall, though you have to get the beam to hit the panels just right so that they will redirect it (the beam) at just the right angle, though unfortunately the panels keep moving. Confusing? If that doesn't sound tough enough, keep in mind you have to do all this while fighting the pull of gravity (think Gravitar or Thrust, or Solar Jetman for the NES) so that you don't crash.

This game is definitely not for novices, or for those without the patience of a saint. In retrospect, I think Sub-Terrania would have made a pretty cool and original shooter, which is what they should have focused on and dumped all the puzzle crap.
